April Exhibit: Local Clay “Still Here, Better Than Ever!”

April 1 – May 1, 2022

Opening Reception April 1, 2022  5pm – 8pm

By Hand Gallery is proud to present more work from Local Clay Potters Guild members. Throughout the pandemic, the artisan members have continued to create new work, but due to public health restrictions have been unable to co-host the Local Clay Show at the Monroe County Convention Center

This exhibit will be an opportunity for the public to see what has been happening in the clay studios of these local artisans and collect a new piece of their work. The works on display include a full range of clays: earthenware, stoneware, porcelain, and applications: functional, sculpture, and wall pieces.

Artists included in the exhibit are:

Kris Busch, Ruth Conway, Judy DeGan; Karen Green Stone; Jim Halvorson, Thomas Harris, Andrew Huddleston, Kara Lovell, Rebecca Lowery, Sarah Mitchell, Marcy Neiditz, Suzy O’Donnell, John Peterson, Dee Schaad, Walt Schmidt, Daria Smith, Susan Snyder, and Casey Muskey Toth.

What is Local Clay Potters’ Guild?

Local Clay Potters’ Guild is a cooperative organization founded in 1997 that promotes individual artistic growth, the artistic standing of Local Clay as a whole and contributes to the growth of interest in the ceramic arts in Indiana.

Members co-organize the Artisan Guilds Holiday Show each November at the Monroe Convention Center.  Patrons from around the Bloomington area and across the region attend the two-day show.

Each February, Local Clay members create and donate hundreds of soup bowls for the annual fundraiser Soup Bowl Benefit supporting Hoosier Hills Food Bank.  The event includes the broader clay community of high school students, Indiana University ceramics students, Ivy Tech students, teachers, and studio potters. This combination of clay lovers’ weaves together a family whose generosity is directed at eliminating hunger by supporting a well-established community organization.

The guild connects potters by creating professional opportunities along with unexpected and truly wonderful relationships. Members share information, order supplies together, travel together to shows and events, and organize the fall show that has become the premier pottery show in Indiana.

Still Here: Better than Ever! Part II is free and open to the public.
