ROCK MUSIC. Limestone sculptures and reliefs by Mike Van Vooren.
For the past thirty-five years Mike Van Vooren has been carving limestone. He is also an avid amateur musician who plays guitar, bass, saxophone, and drums and compares his approach to sculpting limestone to that of an improvising jazz musician. This show represents some of his limestone carving from a musical perspective.
Mike has produced visual art in many media including drawing, pastel, oil, acrylic, digital photography, and limestone. His work is represented in collections world-wide.
Upon graduating with a degree in English Literature in 1972, he immediately began an intensive and ongoing self-instruction in visual art and art history. He moved to Bloomington in 1974 where he was a founding member of the Artist’s Co-op of 25 community artists, graduate students and instructors at Indiana University.
