‘No Bugs Were Harmed! Paper Sculpture by Jennifer Ivory’.
is presented at By Hand Gallery and features the work of Jennifer Ivory with an opening reception on Friday, October 6th, from 5–8 pm for Gallery Walk, Bloomington.
Jennifer Ivory’s artwork is made with individual insect sculptures that are created using illustration ink and acrylic paint on various types of archival grade art paper. Each paper insect is based on a real insect from somewhere around the world. Jennifer tries to get the detail and color as accurate as she can but, for fun, she often makes them much larger or smaller than they might be in real life. The time it takes to make each piece varies wildly from a day to many weeks!
Jennifer says “People often believe my paper insects are quite real, necessitating my somewhat humorous disclaimers that no insects were harmed in the making of the artwork! I never get tired of hearing the surprise in people’s voices & seeing the smiles on their faces when they first see my paper bugs. Often memories are triggered and a story ensues! I sincerely hope my artwork inspires people to pause for a moment every now and then to appreciate our insect neighbors; we are, after all, quite dependent upon them.
