By Hand Gallery presents its artists many-layered and exotic interpretations of Erotica.
The small scale works variously are abstract, carefully representational, and symbolic as they allude to the Erotic in its many forms. The artists sculpt glass, clay, and stone, paint in encaustic oil, watercolor, and pastel, and interlace textiles, mosaic, and wood.

September 21st: Anniversary Open House
By Hand Gallery is celebrating our 40th Anniversary with an Open House on Saturday, September 21st from 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM at Fountain Square, Suite 109. Artists will be demonstrating on a Potter’s Wheel (11:00 AM -3:00 PM) and with Stone Carving (1:00 PM - 3:00 PM). There will also be a Kid’s Craft Table and refreshments all day, so bring the whole family and make a day out of it!

September 6th: Nell Devitt
Smoke Fired Clay - New Work
This exhibition is a combination of new, smoke fired, ceramic, wall installations and a new collection of ceramic pinch pots.
The ceramic tile installations are a continuation of Nell’s modular wall pieces that have been used by designers and architects throughout the country for the past 25 years. The pinch pots are a nod back to the beginning of her life’s work with clay.

Recent Works by Kris Busch & Scott Johnson
A joint showing of new works by Scott Johnson and Kristin Busch featuring metal mandalas and ceramic forms.
Kris works with stoneware, using the wheel to create pottery for use and to adorn the home. She finds inspiration for decorating her forms in the colors and star patterns of Scott's photography as well as from traditional Asian copper red glazes and forms.

Mark is a lifelong resident of Bloomington and has been interested in creating artwork in various media all his life, but began work in pen and ink in 1980. Most of the subjects of his drawings are of structures and scenes in Bloomington and southern Indiana. Bekki Canine has been entranced by the rich atmospheres and colors of traditional oil paintings since first walking through the galleries of the Museum of the Art Institute of Chicago as a teenager. She has also long been drawn to objects with an intrinsic story and history: fabric from discarded clothing, old maps and book pages, forgotten photographs. Through the process of hand-building, slip casting and throwing, Anne Beyer creates utilitarian objects, representational sculpture and abstract sculpture. She specializes in wood firing and is always trying to find the balance between material control and serendipitous trace of flame, heat and ash melt across the surface of her pieces. The firing process inspires her forms and helps guide her aesthetic choices in a playful, symbiotic way.
