My paintings evolve from actual experiences, the majority reflecting either people enjoying their environment and interacting with nature, or are a direct result of first hand observation during the process of plein aire painting. A mood, a pattern, or an atmospheric quality often triggers reactions to a subject, resulting in a completed image on canvas or on paper.
Another major area of work consists of commissioned oil, pastel, or acrylic portraits. Live sittings, interviews, and photography are utilized in the process of creating these paintings. Meeting with the subject in person allows me to better capture the personality and ultimately the likeness.
